About QCTI
The QCTI is a registered institution in Jamaica through the Companies Offices of Jamaica. Assessments are conducted in collaboration with the HEART NSTA which is the main regulatory body for NCTVET and NQR certification in Jamaica. All trainers are also certified and where required, licenced in their field of practice.
Apart from person who have left school and are pursuing this career pathway, the courses at QCTI are designed to accommodate persons who employed in low skilled job and desire a change or individuals who just needs a career change. The cohorts are usually once per week for the face to face classes and minimum two evenings or weekends for the online programmes.
Goals & Objectives
The main goal of the institution is to impart knowledge and skills training for assistant nursing course and other health care support staff. The objectives include but are not limited to;
- To impart theoretical knowledge in general, psychiatric, geriatric and child health care that will meet the requirements to function effectively in these roles.
- To develop the hands-on skills of participants in various nursing care techniques that will help them to be operative in the required role.
- To improve the customer service skills of participants to improve their interpersonal relationship in dealing with both internal and external customers in the working environment.
- To introduce basic computer knowledge and skills to participants to help to align them with the changing technological trends in the workplace.
Management
Quality Care Training Institute is owned by a highly qualified individual with not less than the level of a Masters Degree in Nursing Mental Health /Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner who is also a Registered General Nurse and a Nursing Educator and trainer for different course related to health care. Although she has oversight for the general management of the facility, there is a Board of Directors that assists in guiding and making decisions, regarding the overall running and functioning of the institution. The Assistant Director provides support in the absence of the Director and also has oversight of the Information Technology aspect of the programme. The day-to-day management of the facility will be the responsibility of the Administrator Manager.
Advisory Board
The Advisory Board consist of five members with experience in different expertise. The advisory Board has oversight for internal matters that affect the welfare of the students. This will include making decisions on appeals from students related to grades or other situations that they may think results in an unfair advantage for them. In addition, decisions are made by the Advisory Board on any changes to the operational hours to facilitate special activities. The chairperson of the Board currently is the Administrative Manager and there is a Deputy Chairperson that provides support in the absence of the Chairperson.
Hours of Operation
The institution opens from 8:30 am until 5 pm on Mondays to Thursdays and from 8:30 – 4 pm om Fridays.
Face to Face classes is facilitate from 9:30 am – 3:30 pm during the weekdays. Each cohort is usually once per week for a full day.
Online courses are facilitated through the zoom platform at this time and will be from 3:30 – 5pm on alternate Sundays, and 6:15 pm – 8:15 pm on Tuesday – Thursdays. This arrangement may be altered depending on the needs and availability of the participants and lecturers. This will however be agreed before commencing each course.
